The FINA Diving World Cup will take place at the Schwimm- und Sprung Halle am Europasportpark, and the following are athletes key names to remember. Berlin, the German capital, will play host to the final international diving competition of the year over the next four days.
Athletes to watch out
Zongyuan Wang of China

At age six, Chinese Wang Zongyuan began diving. He’s currently one of the top divers in the world, despite being only 20 years old.
He won gold off the 1m springboard right away in Gwangju (KOR), where he made his FINA World Championships debut in 2019. He later won the Olympic gold medal in the 3m-synchronized event at the Tokyo 2020 Games in 2018 and earned a second silver in the solo competition.
Wang was the most successful diver of all at the FINA World Championships this year in Budapest, Hungary, winning three gold medals in the 1m, 3m, and 3m synchronized events. Even though his career is still young, he is now one of just two competitors who have won the world title from 1m on multiple occasions.
Pandelela Pamg of Malaysia

Pamg’s aptitude for diving was evident from a young age, and at the Beijing 2008 Games, she made her Olympic debut. She subsequently accomplished a historic milestone at the London 2012 Olympics by becoming the first Malaysian woman to earn an Olympic medal with a bronze from 10 meters, which was also the first-ever Olympic medal for the nation in a sport other than badminton.
Pamg and Cheong Jun Hoong even won silver at the Olympics in the 10m synchronized event four years later. At the FINA World Championships so far, the 29-year-old has collected seven medals.
Shixin Li of Australia
Shixin Li achieved the title of FINA World Champion from 1m twice, in 2011 and then again in 2013, making him one of only two swimmers to accomplish this feat. He was still representing China at the moment, but he has been donning the Australian flag for the past three years.
He participated in the Tokyo 2021 Olympics for his new nation (JPN). In reality, he simply hoped to work as a trainer in Australia before his career took off once more after quitting in 2014. He increased his medal total this summer in the FINA World Championships in Budapest (HUN). The 34-year-old earned bronze at the competition again, eleven years after taking home a medal at the FINA World Championship.
PUBLIC STARS
Timo Barthel of Germany

Despite his fear of heights, Timo Barthel is recognized as one of Europe’s best divers, and not just from the 10m platform. Together with teammate Jaden Eikermann, he earned bronze in the 10m synchronized event at this year’s European Championships in Rome (ITA).
However, Barthel is also accomplished from the 3m springboard, having won bronze in the synchronized category with Lars Rüdiger at the recent FINA World Championships in Budapest (HUN). The 26-year-old is a diving influencer on Instagram, where he actively promotes his sport and has a huge network of contacts around the world.
Lou Massenberg of Germany

The 22-year-old has been a consistent performer for quite some time, particularly in synchronized diving competitions. After winning their first European championship together in 2018, Lou Massenberg and Tina Punzel won the 3m synchronized mixed event at this year’s European Championships in Rome (ITA). This victory came four years after they first won the European gold together in 2018. Only one pair in Germany has ever won a medal in this competition, but they have won all five of Germany’s medals in the history of this sport combined. They won silver in 2019, and bronze in 2021.
In 2019, Massenberg and Punzel were again victorious in the bronze medal event at the FINA World Championships held in Gwangju (KOR). In the same year, Massenberg won the team competition at the European level and was crowned champion. Massenberg has a home-field advantage at the FINA Diving World Cup in Berlin because the competition will take place at the same facility where he often trains.
Jette Müller of Germany
Size is irrelevant, as Jette Müller has frequently demonstrated. Despite being one of the shortest dives on the German team (1.58m), the 19-year-old took home two gold medals from 1m and 3m at the FINA World Junior Championships in Kyiv (UKR) last year.
Müller was able to qualify for both the European Championships in Rome, Italy, where she finished fourth from 3 meters, and the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, this year. She is also the current 1m and 3m German champion. She believes that being smaller than other divers really helps her since it makes it easier for her to get her feet in the air more quickly.
