FINA Diving WORLD CUP

With the FINA Diving World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and European Championships all happening within the span of two months, the elite divers will begin the new season with the Diving World Cup 2022 in Berlin, Germany.

There will be a total of 60 divers competing at the World Cup, representing 13 different National Federations. The People’s Republic of China is the clear favorite to win all of the available gold medals, as they have assembled a dream team consisting of nine divers. But keep an eye out for shocks coming from the United States, Japan, Australia, and even your own country, Germany. The program will now include a new type of competition called the Mixed team event.

In Berlin’s SSE Arena, the Diving World Cup will be staged simultaneously with the Swimming World Cup for the first time ever. Sixty divers representing thirteen different National Federations have signed up for the four-day event.

Berlin will host eight different diving competitions

Four individual events (Men: 3m Springboard and 10m Platform; Women: 3m Springboard and 10m Platform; Men: Synchro 3m and 10m Platform; Women: Synchro 3m and 10m Platform), four synchronized events (Men: Synchro 3m and 10m Platform; Women: Synchro 3m and 10m Platform), and a brand new Team event featuring individual and mixed synchro dives performed by teams of two to four divers.

Athletes to Keep an Eye On

Nine champions from the People’s Republic of China, including many Olympic and world titles, are traveling to Berlin: Following his absence from the World Cup in Tokyo, Japan last year, CAO YUAN (86 FINA and Olympic medals) and YANG JIAN will co-captain the male squad. The current World Champion CHEN YIWEN will team up with CHANG YANI from the 3m springboards in the women’s field, while 15-year-old prodigy HONGCHAN QUAN (Olympic Champion) and CHEN YUXI (World Champion) will compete from the 10m platform.

However, the United States will be sending the biggest delegation to the diving world cup this year. Medalists from the World Championships KATRINA YOUNG and CARSON TYLER will compete for medals in the 10m and 3m events, respectively. TIMO BARTHEL, who won the bronze medal in the 3m synchro dive at the most recent World Championships, will lead a youthful German diving squad.

Both Malaysia and Japan field very tiny but high-caliber national teams. PANDELELA PAMG will attempt to retain her title as World Cup champion on the 10-meter platform, and SAYAKA MIKAMI’s goal is to begin her comeback from where she left off in Budapest 2022 with a silver medal.

Jamaica is sending a team to the Diving World Cup for the very first time in the competition’s history, and YONA KNIGHT-WISDOM and Yohan Dion ESKRICK-PARKINSON will be on that team. They will compete in the synchro event.

Both Canada and Australia, who each have three and five divers respectively, will participate in the competition in an effort to challenge China’s dominant position. The brilliance of MADDISON KEENEY and CASSIEL ROUSSEAU cannot be counted on for this competition, therefore XI SHIXIN, a former member of the Chinese team, is the one to watch from the Australian team. He is a two-time winner of the 1m World Championship.
